At Vidya Gobal School, the IB PYP is designed for students between the ages of 3 to 12 years. It is an International trans-disciplinary programme designed to foster the development of the whole child in the classroom and also through other means of learning.
The PYP believes in an inquiry based teaching method, structured in Units Of Inquiry with cross curricular links to other subjects. This arrangement allows flexibility and spontaneity as well as depth and structure, and pays full attention to the development of subject related skills.
The PYP draws on research and best practices from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant, engaging, challenging and significant educational framework for all children
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP) is underpinned by six trans-disciplinary themes around which learning is planned.
- Who we are
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organize ourselves
- Sharing the planet
This is supported and balanced by skills and knowledge from the 6 subject areas Language, Mathematics, Science, Social studies, PSPE (Personal, Social and Physical Education) and the Arts towards the development of the whole child.
The 5 Essential elements of PYP are: Knowledge, Skills, Concept, and Attitudes & Action
Knowledge – which is both disciplinary & trans-disciplinary is represented by traditional subject areas – language, mathematics, science, social studies, arts and PSPE
Skills – which are the broad capabilities students develop and apply during learning and in life beyond the classroom
Concepts – which students explore through structured inquiry in order to develop coherent, in-depth understanding, and which have relevance both within and beyond subject areas
Attitudes – which contribute to international-mindedness and the wellbeing of individuals learning communities, and connect directly to the IB learner profile.
Action – which is an expectation in the PYP that successful inquiry leads to responsible, thoughtful and appropriate action.
